Target participants
Urban apartment or independent house buyers who moved into their current home within the last two years.
The problem
Home buyers in urban India often realize their walls have chronic seepage only after the first monsoon rains arrive. By then, fresh paint hides the damage and sellers have already moved on, leaving new owners to bear expensive repair bills. Traditional property inspections miss hidden moisture issues because standard viewings focus on superficial aesthetics rather than structural health.
This gap persists because standard home inspection services are rare or viewed as an unnecessary extra cost during property transactions. Buyers lack accessible tools or methods to test walls and plumbing before handing over money. Designers need to understand when and how this realization hits families, mapping out the information breakdown between builders, brokers, and buyers.
Research question
What triggers the realization of hidden dampness, and what information do buyers wish they had access to before finalizing a purchase?
