Target participants
Recent graduates (0-2 years experience) from engineering and computer science programs in India, actively seeking or recently employed in coding roles; HR and recruiting managers at tech companies hiring freshers; university faculty (Computer Science or IT departments) or instructors from coding bootcamps.
The problem
Many engineering and computer science graduates in India finish their degrees with excellent academic records. Yet, when they enter the job market, they often struggle to demonstrate the practical coding skills required by companies. This disconnect leads to frustration for job seekers, longer unemployment periods, or underemployment in roles below their potential.
This persistent gap between theoretical knowledge and applied ability is a significant concern for both students and employers. Universities often prioritize syllabus coverage and exam performance, leaving limited room for hands-on project work, industry-relevant tools, or collaborative development practices. It's a systemic issue that leaves many graduates unprepared for the immediate demands of a professional coding environment.
Research question
What are the underlying reasons why fresh Indian graduates with strong academic coding backgrounds struggle to apply practical coding skills in professional settings, and how do their learning experiences contribute to this gap?
